Ashvegas ready to be flooded again?

Last year we saw something not seen in 100 years – massive flooding caused by three successive storms. Now here we go again.

Tropical Storm Cindy, if you can still call it that, is going to bring more torrential downpours our way. The flood warnings are already up. I wonder what the Biltmore Village shop owners are doing tonight – will they stand by their wares one more time?

Last year was incredible. Flooding was terrible around the region. But I’ll just focus on Biltmore Village.

The whole place was under water. The water level was up to the drive-in window at the Wendy’s down there across from the Krystal. The old wooden floors of the Biltmore hardware store-turned coffee shop were ruined. Somehow, the Hot Shot Cafe got back on its feet – but can it sustain yet another round of major flooding?

Remember how the antiques floated out of the antique mall on Swannanoa River Road? Remember all the fuel tanks and propane tanks and giant oil tanks that came loose and floated down the river, filling the air with the dense smell of fuel oil? Remember how the Biltmore Estate sign was almost under water?

Nobody wants any of that again. I can’t believe were headed that way… again.
