Ashvegas reader: Buncombe County school system to cut power to all schools after June 10

Share

From Chad at Carolina Stompers:

An inside source with the Buncombe County School system told me that they are going to cut off the power to all Buncombe County Schools after June 10th.

The offices of the schools are the only rooms to have power. My source says that this really puts a problem on the Youth Leagues, cheer camps, other sporting events, and especially the janitors who have to get the schools clean for the next year.

I asked a janitor at Erwin about this, (who said he knew of the power cut off deal), and said, “How are we supposed vacume out lockers and buff 150,000 square feet of floors with no power?”

He went on to say, “My wife works here part time. Her salary helps pay the bills at the end of the month. We think she is going to loose her job. I just don’t know what we are going to do.”

This is a tragedy! These politicians ran on “better jobs and cut spending”. These jobs can be saved! All we have to do is hold these politicians accountable. Our organization will be there Monday. I hope others will be also.

"I wonder why some of the SPORTS programs are not being cut to keep teachers working, instead of enlarging class size and releasing teachers from their contracts."

LOKEL, for the most part there isn’t enough money (from the school budget) put into athletics to warrant eliminating sports. Athletics survive much more off boosters and the gate than they do funds from the education system.

They’re doing the same down here to the summer employees, 4 day work week and no power between 7pm Thursday and 7 am Monday.

I work for Buncombe Co. Schools as well…

…and just as with everything that comes from Chad and the Stompers, it’s pure horse puckey.

The schools will keep the power on for the very reasons that you mentioned. People will be working over the entire summer at all of the schools. However, the work week changes to 4-day, 10-hr. weeks. On fridays and through the weekends, they WILL shut the power off.
