Ashvegas reader: AT&T to switch on 3G on Oct 28

Loyal reader SL has it:

Word is in…
” I am showing 3G towers to be activated on 10/28/2009. That is if mother nature is kind to us. Also I am showing additional towers to be switched on as well. A couple of those towers will be switched on late November – early December. Just hang in there.”

AVL finally got 3G as of last night! Apparently 400 sq miles of coverage in central AVL and areas towards Hendersonville/ I-26.

Asheville is a Blue town (read liberal). Ain’t no way the right wing Rush Limbaugh doodle sucking fat cats at AT&T are going to bring 3G here. The rest of the country will have 4G and we’ll still be plodding along with Edge. Droid, here I come ….

Oct. 30th and still no 3G! What gives?

will October 29, 2009 - 12:10 pm

Well, so much for that.

will October 28, 2009 - 5:28 pm

bruce,
Yes there is Edge service in most parts of Asheville. I know for a fact that in Beaverdam, however, there is no AT&T service, as I tried to move out there recently but couldn’t for that reason. I have a 3Gs iPhone and love it except for the Edge service, which works very slowly, and only 25% of the time.

I REALLY hope this October 28 rumor is true. I’ve been hearing rumors since July. and so far, no luck.

I’ve heard this one before… I’ll believe it when I see it.

no choices October 23, 2009 - 12:23 am

I’m still waiting for my refund – I’ve been paying the same price as 3G customers for the past year, with less-than 3G service.

I didn’t think AT&T even had 2G in Asheville. Does anyone in Asheville have an iPhone that works? I was visiting in August, and my iPhone didn’t work at all where I was staying in Beaverdam, but even downtown I could not get a data signal – not even a fall back to EDGE (2G). Voice worked OK but not great. Best service I had during that trip to WNC was standing on the peak of Mt Mitchell. If I still lived there, I wouldn’t have an iPhone.

Great – the rest of the country is going to 4G, but we at least will be up-to-date soon with 3G.
