i had a great weekend full of food, music and dancing with friends, and just have to quickly share one of the highlights – The Billy Sea show at The Altamont Theatre on Church Street.
The Billy Sea is a musical project of percussinist River Guerguerian, slide guitarist Billy Cardine and bassist Jake Wolf. The trio recorded their debut album on Friday, then played a live show that night. The music was simply incredible. The band describes it as world Americana, and that’s pretty fitting. Imagine blue grass-flavored tunes punctuated with top notch musicianship – especially River’s stunning drumming. And i don’t mean to slight Cardine and Wolf – both are fantastic. But those drums always get me.
And there was more. I met Sally at the show and she delivered this report because I missed the second half:
hi Jason,
It was great to meet you and share a table last night @ the Altamont. The second half of the show was great. Billy pulled out the Moog lap guitar, Chris Rosser came up as well as Jay (?) from Acoustic Syndicate and they did about a 15 minute jam, sort of an Appalachian King Crimson Blues Curry. Great stuff. I feel blessed to live here. Thanks for the great blog.
The Altamont Theatre is simply the best listening room in Asheville. The acoustics are stunning. Look for more top top musican entertainment coming through this venue. And go listen, support them.
