Some of what’s swirling around:
– From a loyal reader: Mike Bettes has been filling-in for the vacationing Al Roker on NBC’s Today show this week. He is getting prime exposure on NBC as a result of that network buying The Weather Channel. Congrats to Mike. Well deserved.
Go Mike!
– Thinking about how to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Tar Heel basketball later this year. Step one – get tix to the Sept. 4 alumni game. TarHeelBlue.com.
– This story, first reported by the John Locke Foundation newspaper Carolina Journal, shows how N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office over-paid lawyers the state hired to help it fight the TVA in a clean air lawsuit that was heard here in Asheville. Taxpayers get shafted, and lawyers get rich, once again.
– Haven’t heard much about this story locally: A 20-year-old woman charged with smothering her infant daughter in April 2008 will appear in a New York court for the first time since being returned from Asheville on a fugitive warrant. Newsday.com.
– Stir Fry Cafe on Hendersonville Road has closed. Another victim of the bad economy?

Rumor has it that Mike Cuevas is on his way out at WLOS. They have posted a job opening for Chief Meteorologist on their web site.
I think Stir Fry Cafe was a victim of mediocrity and steep prices; furthermore, there is nothing in that ugly strip mall to bring anyone into it.
