Ashvegas hot shots: On animal abuse, Ghost Town, great weather and more

Share

A few hot shots for the day:

– Yesterday was such a slow news day that everyone was chasing after a story about some kids grown men dragging a puppy on a leash. That’s a pretty weak top news story, and it pales in comparison to the dog dragging back in 2000 that I was waiting for news outlets to mention.

Back then, a guy said he was tying his dog Tyson to the back of his Jeep for exercise, but he cops found the dog scraped up all over his body and lying on the side of the road. His animal abuse case went to trial, and he was found not guilty.

– Monday and Tuesday in Asheville were two of the most perfect days of the year so far, weather-wise. Low humidity, breezy and sunny, with lows in the low 60s, even upper 50s, and highs in the low 80s. Wow. I just walked outside to wander around. Will that hold for the rest of the week? I heard lots of thunder last night, but it’s sunny now. Ray’s Weather says maybe a little rain today, but the rest of the week looks good until Sunday.

– Audience Asheville is hiring writers who know the arts and know how to work with an editor. They’re still working out the bugs on the brand new local visual arts review blog, but keep your eye on this one.

CrossFit Asheville kicked my ass — again. Want to get a look at the pain in store for you? Go to the CrossFit Asheville blog here.

– I’m taking bets on how long the Ghost Town in the Sky amusement park will stay open. Anybody got a guess? Is anybody going? Has anybody been yet this year? I give them until September.

Those kids dragging the puppy down Montford Avenue were grown men as it turns out. I believe in their 40s. I would be more than happy to tie them by a leash to my bumper and take them for a stroll on I-40.
