Here’s what’s on the street. I have a few beers. I listen. Take it for what it’s worth.
-Is there a “comfort food restaurant” opening in the old Jolie Rouge location downtown? That’s what I hear.
–Gordon Smith and Cecil Bothwell actually have zero chance of winning in this year’s Asheville City Council elections. Why? Because they have man names. Just look at the list of people sitting on council now with unisex names: Brownie, Jan, Terry and Kelly. It’s Asheville, any way you like it.
-Speaking of Gordon – he held a little rally for supporters on Thursday night, serving up beer and burgers and some political speechify-ing. “We were gonna serve Mexican, but we were afraid Carl Mumpower would find out and come down and blow the place up.” Ouch.
-Also overheard: City Councilman Kelly Miller has changed his political affiliation from “unaffiliated” to Democrat. Interesting.
–North Buncombe High School’s tennis team is entering state playoffs as an undefeated team this season. Undefeated! I was a high school tennis play at N.B. many moons ago, and we got our butts kicked on a regular basis. This is incredible news to me. I’ll write more later. Meantime, cheer on the Blackhawks!
-Heard that Uptime Computers Sales and Service on Leicester Highway is having some difficulties. Uptime’s web site says it closed its store location to save money, but is still doing onsite work, and continues to offer web hosting and design.
-Here’s a trend story pitch, with headline: “For small business owners, it’s back to the trenches.” With the tough economy, more and more small business owners are back on the front lines, serving up food and running cash registers. In a booming economy, business owners could hire extra help and take time to get away. Now they’re cutting back on personnel and pitching in themselves. (This is happening across Asheville, and certainly beyond.)

Clearly, you missed my feature article on the Black Hawks beating the likes for Roberson and Asheville or any of Andrew’s stuff on the team. But, such is life. Yep, they’re having a superb season.
Speaking of which, I’m curious. What’s your take on the sports side of things at the C-T. You rarely talk about our department, and you never link to stories we run on things you eventually talk about – one example, some stuff on Kenny George (it almost looked like you went out of your way not to link us even if your alternate sites were dated.)
I heard the Bier Garden was moving to Jolly Rogue.
