Ashvegas commenter: Policy of requiring city of Asheville government department directors to live inside city limits is being ignored

Share

Here’s the comment, which comes in response to the observation that none of the four Asheville city government employees arrested earlier this week actually live in the city limits:

All of them live outside the city like many of the department directors do, It’s city policy that  department directors must live in the city because they are expected  to be subject to the standards they are setting for city taxpayers and they should be paying city taxes themselves. (Asheville City Manager Gary) Jackson has allowed most of them to ignore that policy requirement which has led to a bunch of sleazy activity carried out by department heads because they have no accountability or responsibility to the city taxpayers since they’re not one themselves.

Asheville’s topmost managers should live in the city of Asheville. Sounds like this is worth following up.

While I understand this is just a blog, it is sanctioned by the Citizen Times. So then I must ask, is it the practice of the local newspaper staff to to make the observation that there’s an interesting story here and somebody somewhere should follow up. Fogive me if I find that rather pathetically ironic.

" . . .Sounds like this is worth following up. . . "

So who will be following up? John Boyle?

I work in a local business. I am the only employee, aside from the filthy rich owner, who lives in Asheville. Mind you, there are nearly 100 working here…

Is this really the poilcy? At one point in time, only the City Manager and the Assistant City Manager were required to live in the limits.
