Tony Kiss, better known around Asheville as the Beer Guy, has invited President Obama to Beer Summit II while he’s here in Asheville this weekend. I think that’s a splendid idea.
From the Beer Guy’s blog:
We know the dude likes beer. Remember last July, when Obama convened the original Beer Summit, sitting down with black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the white Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. James Crowley, who had busted him for disorderly conduct?
They hashed it out over brews. The president had Bud Light. Gates had a SamAdams Light for Gates and Crowley sipped a Blue Moon.
That was all well and good for the moment. But Asheville is a more adventerous brew city, with some 80 differnt beers being made in Buncombe County each day.
So during his visit, the Beer Guy calls upon the Prez to stop at one of our fine watering holes – perhaps it should be neutral ground like the new Pack’s Tavern.
He should try a few of the local brews and make some official comment fully establishing the city’s national place on the beer scene. If not now, when. If not Obama, who?
The Beer Guy will even pop for the President’s brew, though the leader of the Free World makes a lot more money than this poor journalist.
