Asheville Brewing to increase production, can its beers

Share

Story from Tony Kiss, the Beer Guy:

Asheville Brewing Co. will double its production equipment and add a canning system in the next few weeks. By July, it figures to be selling canned six-packs of its popular beers all over Western North Carolina.

It’s a game-changing move. These will be first canned beers made here, and the expansion propels Asheville Brewing to the front lines of the city’s hot craft beer scene.

Currently, only Asheville’s biggest brewery, Highland Brewing Co., sells six-packs of local beer, though some of other breweries do offer 22-ounce bottles.

Asheville Brewing has signed a distribution agreement with Budweiser of Asheville, which has been greatly growing its craft beer portfolio. The company will place Asheville Brewing’s beers in its 12-county distribution area.

As production ramps up, those beers will be sold in grocery stores, convenience marts, restaurants, bars and festivals all over the mountains. Look for Asheville Brewing’s Shiva IPA and Ninja porter first, but others will follow.

Good news. Cans are a great idea for festivals and hiking. Modelo has been my canned beer for awhile, but would love to have an IPA option. Both breweries have great guys at the helm that have been in Asheville for a long time.

Sounds like more jobs and a boost to the Asheville brand.

Cans? Really? Cans, not bottles?

Thanks Ash for giving Isle of Man something else to whine about. ABC knocks out great beer and does a helluva lot for the community. Glad to see they're staying a couple steps ahead of the other breweries in town.
