A blogger has a post about Asheville artist Genie Maples getting together a Pittsburgh show that’s coming up. I really love Genie’s work. Check her stuff out the next time you’re down in the River Arts District.
My dear friend, visual poetess Genie Maples, has a show of her work at Sirani Gallery, here in Pittsburgh, beginning this Friday, October 11th 17th. You can “Meet the Artist” from 5-9pm.
The little bit I know about art (aside from the names of some of the greats and a few forms/styles), I learned from Genie. She is a mother of three and a self-taught artist based in Asheville, NC, and I’ve had the privilege of watching her emerge. Last year, I thought of Genie as I walked down Forbes Avenue in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh past Sirani Gallery. I’d never gone inside before, but on a lark, I figured “Why not?” I went in and felt compelled to tell the very friendly gallery owner about Genie. I probably said something really eloquent like, “I know her work is abstract, and…something about giclee??” A real p.r. pro I am.
