Very cool. Press release:
Icing on the Cake, owned and operated by pastry chef Michelle Fountain has been named the 2011 Pick from The Knot Best of Weddings for the Asheville area. Icing on the Cake received this same honor in 2007.
“This recognition means a lot to me because it comes from the brides who submit reviews of their favorite vendors toThe Knot and Wedding Channel,” says Fountain. “It feels good to know I am making them happy.”
A graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Miami, Florida, Fountain started Icing on the Cake in 2003 and has been creating delicious and dazzling, handcrafted cakes for all occasions ever since. The cakes, fillings and icings come in a wide variety of flavors like sour cream pound cake with hazelnut praline filling and bittersweet chocolate ganache icing. Fountain specializes in hand-sculpted sugar flowers and chocolate work but can make any design a bride desires.
“We decided on one of Michelle’s most popular flavors: Italian cream cake with pecan cream filling and vanilla butter cream frosting. It was AWESOME. Hands down. As soon as I tasted it at the reception, I lost focus of everything else,” says Kathryn W., one of the brides who submitted a review to The Knot.
If a grand wedding cake is not your cup of tea, Icing on the Cake also makes tortes, spiced carrot cake, individual desserts such as mini éclairs, key lime tartlets, mini cannoli, petit fours and truffles. They also make birthday cakes and other special occasion cakes and desserts.
And everything is literally homemade. Fountain built a professional bakery in the basement of her home in Arden.
Icing on the Cake has been featured in various publications including The Knot Magazine, The Bride’s Book, Weddings Unveiled Magazine and Grace Ormonde Wedding Style Magazine, and was awarded the 2008 Gold Winners List and 2007 Readers Choice Award from The Bride’s Book.

Jason…Kudos to Michelle. The recognition is well-deserved! Michelle handled the wedding cake for my wedding. My wife and I still talk about what a wonderful experience it was to work with her. The cake was through the roof…in presentation and in taste! I still call on Michelle to make a cake for my wife's birthday…been doing that for the past couple of years. We highliy recommend her.
