Andie MacDowell will shed clothing in upcoming films

Asheville’s Andie MacDowell is staying awfully busy. Four movies, including two with a unique Asheville connection, are all in the works, according to her imdb page.

As Good As Dead and Happiness Runs are two movies in post-production, according to the movie web site. The first is a thriller, the second a drama. There’s not a lot of detail posted about the two movies.

The two other movies — At Risk and The Front — intrigue me more. First of all, they’re based on novels by crime writing star Patricia Cornwell, whose family once lived in Montreat. That’s where she met the Rev. Billy Graham and his wife, Ruth Bell Graham. Ruth Graham encouraged Cornwell’s writing, and in 1983, Cornwell published a biography of Ruth Graham. Cornwelll also worked a stint as a reporter for the Charlotte Observer.

The other reason the films intrigue me is that MacDowell reportedly gets naked on camera for some sex scenes. Here’s what MacDowell had to say back in October:

MacDowell told Fox News: “I play a real bi**h, I was a narcissistic sex addict and had to sleep with young men. But it was embarrassing because I’m pretty shy and yet I had to look at myself in the mirror and take my clothes off.”

The 51-year-old also talked about the difficulty of finding work in a ‘youthful’ industry, saying: “We live in a society that sees getting older in a certain way, but I keep trying to tell myself of my value and my worth. I’m 51 and I have no shame about that whatsoever and I’m really comfortable in my skin.”

MacDowell added: “I want to work because it brings me a sense of self-worth and dignity, I like my job. I may not be the lead or I may not get the starring roles that I used to because so many movies revolve around youth, but I refuse to go away because I enjoy it.”

Wow. Can’t wait to check those out.

People seem to forget that Ms. McDowell co-starred in a number of iconic movies, including GroundHog Day, Three Weddings and a Funeral and Sex, Lies and Videotape. In addition, she’s been a L’Oreal cosmetics and hair produts spokesperson for 20-something years, a well-paid gig.

If there ever is an Andie McDowell film festival, I’m sure she and her agents will demand a healthy sum just for the privilege of it bearing her name. Our local celebrity has some pretty hefty bills to pay.

This red-blooded American male says……I’ll take a good looking "mature" 51-year old Andie MacDowell any day. She still looks good and the fact that she’s not ashamed of her age and feels comfortable in her own skin makes me say "You go, girl!", "Good for you"!

I must have missed all the movies where she was the star. Is ther going to be an Andie McDowell film festival soon?

Yes indeed, she really needs cash. Just ask any of her former workers here in Asheville.

I know that she is really in need of money. At her age she can’t be too picky about film and tv roles, or other opportunities to earn cash. She is well known as a huge spender and desperately needs income.
