Good Morning America this morning announced that 12 Bones barbecue and rip shack down on River Road had won its “Best Bites Challenge.” They had a live feed from the restaurant and talked to co-owner Sabra Kelley and the guy who nominated the restaurant for the contest, Mike Edney.
The dish that won for them was their blueberry-chipolte ribs. Yum. That’s some great national exposure for one of our favorite restaurants in town. Congratulations!
“Good Morning America Weekend” asked viewers to nominate their favorite local restaurants for our Best Bites Challenge. We’re looking for the place in your town that has it all — great food, atmosphere and people, as well as one special dish that makes the restaurant unique.
From the hundreds of responses received, we narrowed the Best Bites finalists down to four restaurants — Aunt Jenny’s Catfish Restaurant in Ocean Springs, Miss.; Yesterday Café in Rutledge, Ga.; 12 Bones Smokehouse in Asheville, N.C.; and Hot Dougs in Chicago, Ill.
The viewers have spoken and 12 Bones Smokehouse was named the GMA Weekend Best Bites champ.</blockquote

[…] Bones received national acclaim when it won a Good Morning America barbecue sauce competition. Then Sen. Barack Obama stopped by 12 Bones when he was on the campaign […]
I think there is alittle bit of 12 Boner in all of us…
Of course it doesn’t mean more or better hours at all. Sabra and Tom started with the idea that they would work just as hard as they needed, not more. And there’s another one starting up south of Asheville, so that’ll help the lines.
Congratulations to them, the many years on the BBQ circuit for Tom has paid off!
Great news, although, damn, this means the lines will be even longer…
Maybe with all that exposure and acclaim they’ll keep longer hours now? Maybe open a half-day on Saturday?
