The news for Monday, predictably, was pretty pedestrian. A look through the WLOSers’ lens:
Pool water’s OK
Julie Blunder did a “special investigation” or something where she went out and collected water from several Buncombe County public pools then had it tested by a company called Pace Analytical. The tests of water at the Cane Creek, Erwin, Hominy Valley, Recreation Park and a couple of other pools all come back clean, although the Hominy Valley pool showed a tiny bit of fecal bacteria, but the level was well below what the state would deem a problem, Julie told us. That was the extent of the “special investigation.”
Disco Diva
Diva Darcel was wearing some sort of silk pantsuit or something. Heading out to Studio 54 after the 11, Darcy?
Guilty in the second degree
That was the verdict for the dude in Henderson County on trial for shooting and killing a man he once called his friend. The jury apparently felt some sympathy for him because instead of first-degree murder, they found him guilty of second-degree. Toothless relatives of the victim said it wasn’t enough.
Gas up, naturally
There’s a new CNG natural gas gas station now open in Fletcher. But does anyone drive a car fueled by natural gas? The other NC-CNG station is in Ashvegas, across from McCormick Field.
Airport going green
Asheville Regional Airport is going to start using biodiesel in the vehicles it uses. Not the planes, but the cars and trucks around the place.
Waynesville watershed changes?
Terrie Foster gave us a useless story about Waynesville town board members considering building an educational complex and some hiking trails on the town watershed property. So what?
Drug deal gone bad
Two people got shot Sunday at the Chammies car wash on Hendersonville Road. The car wash was closed at the time, and police say the shooting victims were actually just innocent bystanders, according to the report by Charu Khumaria. The cops said the shooting erupted after a drug deal gone wrong.
In other news…
A car wreck in the Reynolds community killed an 18-year-old… There was a sewage spill into Reems Creek…. A group submitted some 5,650 names on a petition to the Buncombe County Board of Elections for verification. If at least 5,000 names are verified as registered voters in the county, then Ashville City Council will have to put to a vote of the people the issue of whether or not city elections should be partisan races or non-partisan affairs. City Council recently voted to change from non-partisan to partisan elections. The elections board has 10 days to verify the signatures…
And John Le cavorted with Folkmoot dancers down in Haywood County.
