Hello Asheville!

You guys know that I love food, and some of you also know that I love drawing pictures of cute chicks… and that I love Halloween, marijuana, and poster art! SO… with all that in mind…

Stoner Witch - 11 X 17 Version

Stoner Witch by Stu Helm – 11 X 17 Version

I’m super stoked to be part of The 1st Annual Halloween Poster Show, which is happening downstairs at PULP / upstairs at The Orange Peel! The opening is Friday, October 30th, and the show runs through Nov. 30.

Jenny Fares of Sound Mind Creative has produced and organized this event, and artists/designers who are showing posters include:

Marcos Lightning Harkness, Dena Rutter, Mary Ellen Davis, Liz Zil, Katie Rotanz, Fabiana Di Maso, Camille Demarinis, Scott Steere, Grace Ellen Truelson, Emily Katherine Richter, Brent Baldwin and friends Drew Findley, Phil Cheney, Chelsey Barnes, Galactic Black, Stu Helm, Ian Leino, Sally Morgan, Jenny Fares, and more!

The poster for the poster show was designed and hand-drawn by Jenny Fares. I love it!!!

It’s been at least two or three years since’t I hung a piece of artwork on a wall for sale, so I was very excited to be invited by Jenny to participate in this 1st Annual Halloween Poster Show! I have TONS of Halloweeny-type of artwork and posters that I could show, but I decided to narrow it down to one piece, which I have printed and signed at two different sizes, so that more people will be able to afford to purchase one, should they wish to! The smaller 11X17 version of my Stoner Witch will be available to purchase and take home right at the show, while the large poster-sized 18X24 Will be framed on the wall, copies can be reserved for buyers to pick-up after the show.

The opening is a FREE, and there will be “dangerously delectable finger food” prepared by Shannon Greene Beasley of Queen B Chef and live music will be performed by Grace Ellen Truelsen’s band Bill and the Belles dressed in 1930s Dracula drag. Costumes are encouraged, and even “creepy people” are welcome, according to the FaceBook event page.

Being equal parts Art Fan/Food Fan, and curious about Queen B Chef, I dropped Jenny a note and asked her a few Q’s re: Food and Beverages…

STU – Hi Jenny, I’m writing a piece for my blog and Ashvegas about the poster art show, and since I’m a food writer, I want to focus a little bit on the food and drinks. 🙂 Can you tell me everything you know about what will be available? Will it be free?

Brrraaainnn dip.

JENNY – Hey Stu, There will be a fresh catch smoked fish dip presented in a brain shape, served with toasted bread. A raw vegetable Crudité with an assortment of homemade hummus ( black bean, sun dried tomato, and roasted garlic). For the ghostly desserts there will be white chocolate dipped witch finger pretzels and toffee brownie bits accompanied by small raspberry brains. Yes it’s free! We are calling it a “social snack”, something to munch on while you check out the artwork. Not so much a meal though you will probably want to pull up a chair and eat it all.

STU – I saw on the poster that finger food will be provided by “Queen B Chef.” Is that this person? http://www.queenbchef.com/

JENNY – Yes! Shannon Beasley is a personal chef that does southern style cuisine. She currently lives in Asheville and is expanding her business in the Destin area of the Emerald Coast in Florida. Her specialty is preparing meals in her client’s homes for special events like romantic dinners for two, dinner with friends, birthdays, family gatherings. etc. She is also great to work with on small events and has extensive experience with event planning and catering.

STU – Will there be larger portions of food available to purchase?

JENNY – Not this time. The delicious food and amazing music are ways to make the event special! Hopefully the posters and the batch of artists swimming around, will be the main event. Do come early if you want a taste!

STU – Also, cocktails? Beer? Coffee?

JENNY – We will have a tea station with a selection of bagged teas available (for free) and the bar will be open at Pulp with cocktails and beer for purchase. I’m not sure if they will have a signature cocktail for us, though I hope they do!

So there ya go! A Halloween Poster Art Show with free food and music… and creepy people. I’ll be one of them! I hope you guys can make it our for the show, and the finger food! I know I’m gonna get there early so I can scarf down some of Chef Beasley’s offerings.
