To say that Casey Kristofferson is looking forward to Yellow Feather’s album release show on Saturday at Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain might be a bit of an understatement these days.

After all, Yellow Feather, which features Kristofferson on vocals, Hunter Begley as the main songwriter, guitarist and vocalist, and Charlie Wills on lap steel, has been playing out and about for more than a year. They put down their album, And Gold, at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, which features drummer Herschel VanDyke and bassist Robert Parks, along with several special guests.

They also collaborated with a crack team, including producer and frequent Todd Snider collaborator Rorey Carroll. It was mixed at Café Rooster Records in Nashville with sound engineer Gabe Masterson and mastered by Alex McCollough (Jim Lauderdale, Amanda Shires, Todd Snider) at True East Mastering in Nashville.

There’s all that, as well as the fact that Kristofferson, now in her early 40s, spent most of the past two decades focused on children, as well as pursuing work as a ballet dancer and teacher. But music has always held Kristofferson’s interest. How could it not? She’s the daughter of iconic American singer-songwriters in Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge.

So it might be more accurate to note that Casey Kristofferson sounds both overjoyed, and deeply content, at the prospects of Yellow Feather. “And I’m just really excited to be working with Hunter,” she says as she continues to gush about Begley’s songwriting.

Anyone attending the Saturday show at Pisgah Brewing will hear Begley’s poetic storytelling on full display in tunes rooted in Americana and roots country genres. They’ll also be treated to Asheville veteran singer-songwriter Taylor Martin, who will add his own unique storytelling voice to the show.

Listen to the premiere here of Yellow Feather’s “Swallow You Down,” and check out the video below from the band’s performance at Pisgah Brewing earlier this year. And consider heading out to Black Mountain on Thanksgiving weekend to see a group of musicians ready to make their mark.
