This year’s event is 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the Diana Wortham Theatre, with three 90-minute sessions of local ideas and performances, a lunch break, Q&A sessions and a 5:30 after-party at The Aloft.

TEDxAsheville is a locally organized community platform for great ideas, virtuoso performances, stories of transformation and local inspiration.  Presenters this year include TIME magazine science editor Jeffrey Kluger, co-author of the book that became Apollo 13; Warren Wilson grad Katie Spotz, the youngest person to row the Atlantic solo; Nashville-to-Asheville GRAMMY nominee Casey Driessen; and members of Asheville’s worldbeat band extraordinaire Toubab Krewe, with West African drum master Adama Dembele.

The event also includes footage of a near-space balloon launch with the students of Francine Delany New School for Children, and a performance by Asheville Playback Theatre.  This year’s theme is “The Edge.”

To win, just be the third unique commenter to correctly tell us: What did “TED” originally stand for?

Only commenters who have not won anything from Ashvegas in the last 30 days are eligible to win. Please use your correct first and last name in your comment, so we know who to hold your tickets for.

JML, contests usually appear at 9 a.m. or 3 p.m. weekdays, though it’s not always that easy to run them at those times. I’m sorry you missed this one. They are open to all readers, but they do end quickly.
