Leave a comment on this blog post and you’ll be entered to win a pair of tickets to see Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins on Friday, Sept. 14, at the Asheville Masonic Temple with guests and Asheville singer-songwriters Jane Kramer and Jeff Thompson.

Revelry: Unique Downtown Events is presenting the show in the intimate setting of the historic theater at The Asheville Masonic Temple. You can buy tickets to the Shawn Mullins show here.

Here’s more about the artists:

Shawn Mullins: After a series of indie record releases, Mullins’ critical breakthrough came when 1998 Soul’s Core album shot him to fame on the strength of its Grammy-nominated No. 1 hit, “Lullaby” followed by AAA/Americana No. 1 “Beautiful Wreck” from 2006’s 9th Ward Pickin Parlor. His song, “Shimmer” was used in promotion of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and was included on the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack. He co-wrote “All in My Head” which was featured in episode one of the hit TV sitcom “Scrubs.” Mullins also co-wrote the Zac Brown Band’s No. 1 country tune “Toes.” In early 2002, he formed super group The Thorns with Matthew Sweet and Peter Droge. Mullins’ most recent album My Stupid Heart, was released in 2015, the theme of which, Mullins says, can be summed up most succinctly by the song title, “It All Comes Down To Love,” the guiding force behind just about every song on the album. Mullins is currently embarking on a recording project in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the release of his album Soul’s Core, which came out July 17, 1998.

Jane Kramer: With deep roots in the music and traditions of her beloved Appalachia, Kramer’s songs are introspective, gracefully gritty and fiercely memorable. They elegantly sweep listeners down the gravel roads and southern coastal highways, midnight truck stops and lonely motel rooms of “hard learning” and lead home to the wooded Blue Ridge Mountains with moving acceptance of our flawed human experience. Following the February 2016 release of her second studio album, Carnival of Hopes, Kramer has been touring nationally and internationally, playing for sold-out audiences in listening rooms, theaters, pubs, festivals, living rooms and arts councils in support of the record. This has gained her a loyal following from Portland, Oregon to Scotland, U.K.

Jeff Thompson: Thompson is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and performer. He likes to wear fedoras and blazers. He likes when spontaneous conversations with strangers and friends proceed like improvised poems. He often wishes he had a tape recorder in his hand. He usually ends up texting choice phrases to himself, so that he won’t forget them. Most of his lyrics come to him, melodies in tow, in the shower or in the last drops of dreaming before waking wipes the slate of his mind dry for the day. He won first place in the Eddie’s Attic Competition (other winners include John Mayer, The Indigo Girls, and of course the great Chelsea Lynn Labate of Ten Cent Poetry), 1st Place in the Cary, NC Six String Cafe Songwriter’s Competition, 1st Place in the Evening Muse Songwriters’ Competition. He was featured in Performing Songwriter Magazine.
