Here’s the press release:

New Festival on the French Broad Celebrates Autumn in Asheville

One of the names that The Cherokee People called the French Broad River was ‘Agiqua’. Translated to English, Agiqua (pronounced Ah-geeg-wah) means Long Man. This river has flowed through Asheville and the ancient Appalachian Mountains for centuries. This Fall, celebrate the river that connects us all from 12 – 8 pm on Saturday, October 13th at the Asheville Outdoor Center, with rafting and family-friendly entertainment, local Asheville beer, food trucks, artists and crafters, two music stages, and beautiful autumn foliage on the French Broad.

The bands on stage feature a who’s who of Asheville favorites, as well as a few out-of-town favorites. The Long Man Fest River Entertainment Tour is a unique Asheville experience with family and friends. These one-hour rafting trips feature musicians and plenty of surprises waiting along the riverbanks.

One festival organizer, Jason Mencer, says, “Though the music, food, beer, and vendors are all going to be top notch, I’m most excited about the River Entertainment Tour. We immediately thought of our love for Asheville’s famous LaZoom bus tours. We wanted to do something inspired by that, only put it on a river – and have the tour end at an awesome music and fun festival. It’s definitely going to be a uniquely-Asheville way for families to spend a beautiful fall Saturday.”

At the Asheville Outdoor Center Festival Grounds, local food trucks Gypsy Queen Cuisine, The Lowdown, Avery’s Hot Dogs, Beulah’s Bavarian Pretzels and Ursa Minor Coffee are serving delicious drinks, meals and snacks with veggie and organic options. Plus, homemade ice cream from The Hop Ice Cream Café.

The Hop Kids Zone features face painters, martial arts demonstrations, performers, gem-mining and plenty more to keep kids of all ages entertained.

For the adults, there’s a Highland Brewery corn-hole tournament with plenty of great prizes for the winners.

Efforts are in motion to make Long Man Fest an environmentally-friendly event with biodegradable wrist-bands, upcycled and recycled posters and materials, on-site recycling by Warren Wilson students, and local food, art, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
