Auditions for Pulse, an Anam Cara Theatre production @ Toy Boat Community Arts Space

Thursday + Saturday6 pm

Pulse is Anam Cara’s latest original production that opens in February, and you can vie for your spot in the spotlight this weekend at Toy Boat. Rehearsals begin January 15th. Audition details on Facebook.
Rock for Roe 2017 @ the Mothlight

NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina kicks off 2017 with Rock for Roe, featuring music from Sweet Claudette and a raffle with prizes from a bevy of local businesses.

Great American Strip Off @ Magnetic Theatre
Thursday – Saturday @ 9 pm
The 1st weekend of a month-long of improv burlesque begins at Magnetic Theatre Thursday and goes through Saturday, with artists Deb au Nare, Queen April, M’Coochi Spoils, and Bobbi Pinnup.
9 pm – 2  am
The Undergrowth music and arts collective celebrates the release of their first compilation, Metazoa, which “pays homage to the diversity found in the animal kingdom and includes over 18 tracks by various Undergrowth artists,” and includes originals and collaborations. Performances from Mycorr Live, Floating Thought, Murkury, + more, live painting from Infinite Geometry and Paige Lisa Carter. Check out the compilation now on Soundcloud. Entry is free.

Booty shakin’ to sweet beats + pretty colors from DJ Abu Disarray , DJ Kent Scott, DJ Debbie Fred, and VJ Jason Scott Furr. Free entry before 11 pm.

Kid Hop Hooray @ the Orange Peel
10 am – 1 pm
Join the biggest kid-friendly dance party in town and heat up on a cold winter day! With performances from the Underdog Crew, Asheville’s bboy and bgirl dance crew. Adults $5, kids $2 (kids under 2 get in free!).
Jane Kramer + Friends @ the Grey Eagle
8 – 11 pm
Songstress Jane Kramer and special guests, including members of Free Planet Radio, Billy Cardine, Lyndsay Pruett, and Old Man Leudecke, at the Grey Eagle. Read the show preview, and an interview with Kramer, on Ashvegas.
9 pm – 2 am
Asheville’s own Marley Carroll throws down all the best tunes at this free show, 2017’s first entry into this wildly successful dance party series.

Tephra Vegan Pop-Up Brunch @ the BLOCK off Biltmore

Get your delicious pop-up brunch this Sunday. It’s vegan, so it’s got to be healthy, right? On the menu: chai-spiced spelt cinnamon rolls, overnight yeasted waffle with fried lemon pepper seitan, roasted sweet potato maple chipotle chili, lemon cornbread muffin. Drinks mixed by the BLOCK. Items $3 – $10.
Trail Running Film Fest Tour @ Grail Moviehouse

3+ hours of the best films from Seattle’s Trail Running Fest are on tour and hitting the Grail screens. Films revolve around the themes of trail running and the great outdoors. $20.
