Rock guitarist and Asheville native Warren Haynes will join Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity volunteers at 3 p.m. on Dec. 9 to help raise a wall on a new home for a local family. The following day, Haynes and a host of musical friends will perform at the annual Christmas Jam concert, which has raised more than $2 million for Habitat.

Money raised from the concert, which this year will include such stars as Bob Weir, Michael McDonald, Jamey Johnson and Alison Krauss, has helped build entire neighborhoods in Asheville, such as the recently completed 25-house Hudson Hills subdivision named in honor of Warren Haynes’ and Stefani Scamardo’s young son, Hudson.

Before Warren Haynes arrives to celebrate the home construction, volunteers from around the country will descend on Habitat’s 10-house McKinley subdivision in the Shiloh neighborhood to work. Local restaurants (12 Bones, Mellow Mushroom, and Village Wayside Bar & Grille) will feed the helpers, and Merrell will again sponsor the signature volunteer event that is in its 10th year, according to a news release.
