Thursday 9/29

AVL Arts Council Refinery Grand Opening @ The Refinery

5 – 8 pm

Asheville’s newest space for artists, makers, and more is celebrating its grand opening! Come check out the studios, say hi to your favorite artists, and enjoy live music and performance, a poetry reading, and, of course, fantastic art.

Gospel Night @ the Double Crown 

10 pm – 1 am

Another edition of the Double Crown’s wildly popular Gospel Night, with special guests Danny Walker and the Fantastic Violinaires! Hailing from Detroit, MI, they first got together in the 1950s. The show is $10.

Friday 9/30

Masterminds @ the Grail Moviehouse

7 pm and 9:30 pm

The movie shot in Asheville in 2014 is finally here! The film stars Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, and Kristen Wiig, and is based on the real-life events of the Loomis Fargo Robbery in North Carolina. We recommend you see it at Asheville’s home-grown Grail Moviehouse.

Asheville Barnaroo 2016 @ Franny’s Farm

Friday @ 7 pmSunday at 12 noon

The 4th annual family-friendly Barnaroo returns with 13 bands from across the country! The event lasts through the weekend and benefits Asheville Music School. Check out Asheville’s only youth-run music and arts event.

Pride Poetry @ The BLOCK off Biltmore

6 – 10 pm

Featuring special local guests sharing their poetry, stories, and songs.

Saturday 10/1

Asheville Coffee Expo @ PennyCup Coffee Co.

10 am – 2 pm

Celebrating Asheville’s roasters, baristas, coffeeshop owners, manufacturers, brewers, clientele, and caffeine fans! Come sample the wares and enjoy freshly-baked pastries on the side. Nothin’ could be finer.

The 8th Annual Hellbilly Hootenany @ New Mountain Asheville

12 noon – 2 am

A day of the best Hellbilly delights, including a car and motorcycle show, a tattoo competition, a zombie pin-up contest, and live music from bands with names like the Dead Dick Hammers. Sh*t yeah.

Sunday 10/2

Wild Hares & Other Phantasmagoria @ Grovewood Gallery

This show from Bakersville, NC, sculptor Josh Cote opens Saturday with a reception and continues through the weekend and beyond at the Grovewood Gallery. Cote’s magical, anthropomorphic animals (mostly rabbits) are accompanied by other items from his “fantastical collection, including shapeshifters, spirits, and antique time machines.” Through 10/31.

Free Beer Sunday @ the Regeneration Station

11 am – 5 pm

Join the folks at the Regeneration Station for free beer, vintage shopping, and supporting a great cause–Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. This Sunday’s beer comes from Asheville Brewing.

Edible Landscape Plants @ V i L L A G E R S

Join the folks at V i L L A G E R S for a talk with pioneering permaculturist and teacher Churck Marsh, who will be speaking about the multi-functionality of edible landscape plants, including making teas. Chuck is the founder of Useful Plants Nursery and is a senior partner at Living Systems Design.
