Flight of the Mind PromoVery cool. Press release here:

What would you do if, in an instant, your body was rendered useless and you were left with only your imagination and the ability to hold a paintbrush in your mouth? A short film on the life of Asheville artist Marcus C. Thomas explores how creative gumption and beautiful art saved a life transformed by such a tragedy.

At the age of 26, Marcus C. Thomas suffered a skiing accident that broke his neck and left him paralyzed from the shoulders down.

The film–produced by Bob Peck of Asheville Multimedia–is a short version of a DVD that complements and chronicles the artist’s 25-year retrospective, Flight of the Mind: A Painter’s Journey through Paralysis, which was released late last year. The book, composed of the narrative story of Marcus’ life and full-color images of his artwork, conveys a message of hope and inspiration for fellow artists, art lovers, those who suffer a disability, caregivers, and anyone struggling to make sense of a world that is both heartbreaking and lovely.

Carolina Cinemas (1640 Hendersonville Rd.) will host a screening of the short film, Flight of the Mind, on Wednesday, July 24th at 8pm in the Cinema Lounge. Admission is free. The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with the artist, Marcus C. Thomas. The author of the retrospective, Leslee Johnson, will also give a short reading.
