Thousands of protesters gathered in Pack Square Park on Monday to express their displeasure with the policies and new laws put in place during this last session of the Republican-controlled North Carolina General Assembly. Crowd estimates for the Mountain Moral Monday event ranged from 6,000 to 8,000 to 10,000 people. It was certainly one of the largest political rallies/protests in Asheville’s history.

You can read more about the Mountain Moral Monday protest at the Asheville Citizen-Times. Here are a few photos.

I am proud of Asheville. Born and raised there. A friend was complaining” Our state is in trouble from the radical conservatives. ” I told her, two weeks ago.. ” north Carolinians will take so much.. Wait and see. ” Was I right or was I right?

Would someone please remind Mr. Barber that those redshirts and klansmen that he keeps comparing the GOP to were actually DEMOCRATS? Also, it was the DEMOCRATS who started the Civil War, the purpose of which was to preserve black slavery, it was DEMOCRATS who initiated the Wilmington race riots which catapulted racist DEMOCRAT Aycock into the governor’s mansion, it was DEMOCRATS who ended Reconstruction and initiated Jim Crow segregation laws in the south, and it was DEMOCRATS who sicked fire hoses and dogs on civil rights protestors in the 1960s.

I have yet to hear any apology from the Democratic Party for any of the above offenses, only demands for apologies from the GOP for even perceived slights, or simple whitewashing of their own past evils like the renaming of their annual Vance/Aycock dinner (named after a Confederate a white supremacist).

In other words, it is hilarious to hear a black Democrat saying “you guys are almost as racist as we used to be”, all the while crying that it has become harder to kill unborn babies and drown our grandchildren with OUR debt.

Good Luck with that “moral” message “reverend” Barber.

Well said Big Al. That right there is the real “inconvenient truth”.

Does someone need to remind you that the Republicans and Democrats have basically switched places, and that the Republicans are pretty much now the party of rich, old, white, straight men and nobody else? Shall we dig up the quotes from Republicans in which they say they do not want Blacks voting because they’ll vote 9 to 1 for Democrats?

Shall we, or would you just clap your hands over your eyes and yell that you can’t hear the facts?
