Here’s a look at Nine Mile West, the latest in a wave of independent restaurants that have opened on Haywood Road the past couple of weeks (and the latest in a wave of amazing restaurant activity all around Asheville.)

My friend Melissa and I ate there last night and loved it. The space is bigger than Nine Mile’s location in Montford (and just as noisy.) There’s a big dining room, which is conducive for families, and the separate bar area is great for hanging out. The decor is inviting. And the food – well, the food is just doggone delicious. Caribbean flavors and filling pasta dishes make for a darn good meal. And don’t forget the chocolate spliff for dessert. The restaurant opens to the public tonight.

Congratulations, Nine Mile West!

  1. What a profound disappointment! We finally got in there and the place looked nice. Had a drink at the bar while waiting on a seat. We were STARVED going in so we selected menu items waiting on a table.

Seated and ordered quickly. Got the Nine Mile their “signature dish”. Ate salad and bread waiting on the food. Salad small but okay. The waiting continued. Well over and hour after salad and several beers my starvation passed. When the food finally showed up it was three ITTY BITTY pieces of chicken on spaghetti with some barely cooked zucchini & squash. By itty bitty, I mean 3 pieces of 2 bites each. Since I’d filled up on beer, salad and bread earlier in the evening and it was now 9:40 PM (we got there at 7:40 PM) I just put it in a to go box. I tasted it and it was not even good. I’m not sure the chicken was even cooked all the way.

We’d left the house thinking we could finally get a meal at Nine Mile and get to Lowes to pick up something and get home to watch a movie. Needless to say Lowes was closed by the time we got our food and I wish I’d gone somewhere– ANYWHERE — else instead.

I’m not even sure I’m taking that boxed meal to work for lunch because the chicken is suspect and it wasn’t good. I’ll take a sandwich to work and leave Nine Mile for the dogs.

Overpriced. Takes entirely WAY too long. Noisy. Food not good. Weird spaghetti with 3 thumb sized pieces of chicken– that’s is the signature dish~~ Much Sadness ~~ Santa

Disappointed that theyre not doing lunch at the new location….

  3. There are no prices on the menu? Everything must be free!

    • Dear Santa, Sorry you missed the friends and family dry-run…this was a short sample of the full menu we offered privately for live practice Monday night. Check out the full menu at ninemileasheville.com for a full docket and pricing info. Same offerings as the Montford location with subtle differences. Chef Amy unveils the Rock Steady (scallops over coconut rice with a rum reduction) and Chef Aaron’s spicy Ras Buddha chili round out the NMW menu as tasty add-ons. I also need a bike for my birthday this year. Much love, Natron

    • Gee, that reasoning never gets old.

  4. Couldn’t wait for these folks to get to West Asheville, so we went the first day! In fact, we love their zucchini pasta so much, it’s been the #1 thing we order from Valet Gourmet for years!!

Nine Mile is the perfect place to take family and friends who have food restrictions. They are considerate and flexible, while having lots of options and offering loads of properly cooked vegetables. Go ahead and order the Empress Menen salad, even though a small salad comes with your dinner. Everyone will be glad you shared!

Maybe the most underrated restaurant in town, partly due to it’s Montford location. Can’t wait to try out the new spot.
