From the AC-T:

The developers of a new downtown microbrewery and restaurant announced Thursday that their 15-barrel operation and eatery should be open at 91 Biltmore Ave., next to The Orange Peel music venue, by the end of the year.

Wicked Weed Brewing is a project of brothers Walt and Luke Dickinson and Ryan Guthy, as well as Guthy’s parents. The three announced their project at another of Asheville’s craft breweries, Wedge Brewing Co.

According to the owners, “Wicked Weed” refers to hops:

In researching beer, Walt Dicksinson said the group came across a story about King Henry VIII banning the importation of hops in the 1500s. The declaration didn’t stop the beer makers of the time, who were simply seeking out the best ingredients to create the tastiest brew they could.

“To us, that tells the story of craft beer. It’s a little bit of being a rebel, that we’re just going to do what we’re passionate about,” Dickinson said.

91 Biltmore Ave. is the former Asheville Hardware building. Read AC-T coverage of the new brewery here. Mountain Xpress coverage is here.
