Mountain Xpress is the bearer of the sad news for fans of chopped liver, boiled bagels and egg salad on pretzel bread: Viva Deli, the fine West Asheville deli across from Sunny Point, has closed.

I hope Glen gets it back open. My sandwich last week rivaled the ones from the 28806 Deli, which is the highest compliment I can give.

Someone posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page that it would not open again in any location. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=356338957776839&id=111818505562220

Nooo! This was my weekly bagel-run spot. The sandwiches were incredible, as well. Sad news.

I always had to do a double take at their sign that said “FREE WIFI”.. For some reason it appeared at a glance to read “FREE WIFE.”
