EMErgence: Electronic Music Experience is a two-day event teaching electronic music production to local young emerging artists on Ocotber 23rd and 24th, 2031. EMErgence is proud to feature legendary producer and Grammy award winning recording artist King Britt at the opening and closing events, both of which are free and open to the public. Britt will also inspire workshop leaders and students through a special master class.
Britt’s first appearance will be at the kick-off event at the Wesley Grant Community Southside Center in the Livingston Community on Tuesday, October 22ndat 6pm. He will be sharing a short performance/demonstration of his music and technique. Youth, parents and community members are invited to be inspired by this innovative artist, use a portable recording studio, and take part in other music and technology experiences which will be set up in lobby of the Grant Center. The kick-off event will also introduce the festival’s workshop artists.
The finale for EMErgence, also free and open to the public, will be “The EMErgence Music Showcase”, facilitated by King Britt and showcasing the work completed by students and workshop leaders over the 2-day experience. This event will take place on Thursday, October 24 at 6pm in The Millroom. Fans of electronic music are encouraged to attend.
On October 23rd and 24th, workshops taught by local artists will take place at Echo Mountain Studios and CityMac in Asheville. Participants are chosen from area high schools through an application process. The workshops will focus on music theory, composition, recording and mixing. On Wednesday, October 23rd, the Bob Moog Foundation will present four one-hour Synthesis Fundamentals sessions taught by synthesizer guru Marc Doty. During the sessions students will also take part in Dr. Bob’s Interactive Sonic Experience, a hands-on instrument setup meant to inspire exploration of the science of sound. The sessions will take place at the Bob Moog Electronic Studio at UNC Asheville and are open to all workshop participants.
King Britt will infuse EMErgence through his role as lead visiting teaching artist during the two-day experience. Local electronic musicians and workshop leaders, including David Krantz, Samuel Paradise, Stereospread, Johnny Mann, Josh Blake and Debrissa McKinney will work with King Britt in a master class along with local youth.
The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus will be joining EMErgence on Thursday October 24th, providing an eight-hour recording session for select participants who will plan, write, and record a complete song within this eight-hour period. Additionally, four lucky students from UNC Asheville interested in music production and journalism will be chosen to shadow the John Lennon Bus staff throughout the following weekend at The 2013 Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit.

The Dan Lucas Memorial Fund was set up by Dan’s family after he passed in 2008. Dan’s great passions were music, especially jazz. He studied at UNC Asheville.
The Lucas Memorial Fund provides funding through the Western North Carolina Community Foundation, which helps develop and distribute charitable funds across 18 Western North Carolina counties.
