jonathan_wainscott_asheville_2015Asheville resident Jonathan Wainscott has announced plans to make another run for Asheville City Council. Wainscott, a community activist, first ran for City Council in 2013. Wainscott began actively engaging with local government officials following New Belgium Brewing’s announcement to build a brewery in Asheville. Wainscott expressed concerns about the impact of brewery truck traffic on West Asheville neighborhoods.

Here’s Wainscott at a 2012 Asheville City Council forum, where he and Councilman Cecil Bothwell engaged in a heated back-and-forth. Here’s Wainscott’s website from the 2013 run, platform included. And here’s a video of Wainscott answering the most oft-asked question of a City Council candidate: why are you running?

Here’s Wainscott’s announcement:

Long-time Asheville resident Jonathan Wainscott will be making his second bid for a seat on the Asheville City Council in the 2015 election. The focus of his campaign will be solutions for affordable housing, job training, and economic development for sustainable growth in Asheville and the surrounding areas. Issues of domestic violence and effectiveness of social services provided to Asheville residents will also be a major focus of the campaign.
Mr. Wainscott plans to file with the Buncombe County Board of Elections for his candidacy in mid-June. Further details about his campaign will be announced after he has officially filed to be a candidate in the Asheville City Council election for 2015.

Wainscott’s announcement that he plans to run comes a week after incumbent Councilmen Jan Davis and Chris Pelly, who were both up for re-election this year, announced that they would not seek re-election. Councilman Marc Hunt is also up for re-election, and he has announced that he will seek another term.

Here’s a rundown of the other announced candidates for Asheville City Council: Julie Mayfield, Rich Lee, Keith Young, Grant Millin and Corey Atkins, as well as Hunt.

Would love to see this guy rub Julie Mayfield the wrong way. This would take about two seconds.

Yeah, this is the guy you want making the important decisions. A man wearing no pants simulating jerking off with a bear bottle while moaning tourism just screams qualified to make decisions that will affect your life.

Oops, that should have been “beer bottle”. Wouldn’t want anyone to be as confused as this video.

I have also file a complaint with the NC Highway Patrol naming Marc Hunt, Gwen Wisler, Gordon Smith, Gary Jackson, Jan Davis, Julie Mayfield and others for participating in a prearranged competition of speed on NC roads and highways. This is a class 1 misdemeanor. Gordon Smith used a city-owned bus in the race.

He may be a little socially challenged, but I hear he has a tremendous singing voice.

Wainscott is a joke. He will only be a distraction on city council with his arrest record, domestic issues, pending divorce, hack protest of New Belgium’s brewery in his backyard and stoner mentality. What a clown. You think he will work with council, small business and the mayor? Ha! If he gets on board, which really there is no chance, he will probably focus on destroying New Belgium and try to figure out how the can use council to better his own street or neighborhood. Do you really want an abusive, violent attention whore on council?

Despite the uneasy feeling I get on occasion when listening to Jonathan interact publicly with others, he is a smart person with some very good/creative ideas…it would benefit Asheville to have him on Council.

However passionate Mr. Wainscott may be, I fear his only contribution to the City Council would be as entertainment value.

Ok, so it is the same guy. And didn’t he go completely wacko on WAX last year and talk about wanting to beat up graffiti artists?

He lost his shit on WAX again tonight. I wish I’d screencapped the paranoid hysterics, fat-bashing, and threats before it all disappeared.

You would think he might want to sort out his legal issues first. Arrest for violating a restraining order associated with domestic violence–not who I want on my city council.

Mr. Wainscott was not arrested – he turned himself in. This happened after LinkedIn sent out an automatic email to his contact list.

As well, he was not involved in domestic violence. You should see the police report and consult knowledgable parties in order to acquire the facts.

You should also see the video of the plaintiff on the phone with 911 – cool, calm, and collected until the operator answers. You can also see her threatening him with the phone call.

So it’s all a big misunderstanding? Everyone gets arrested a time or two, right? I heard it wasn’t domestic violence, it was “heavy petting.” And it was Linkedin’s fault. I think someone threw garbage on a table?

This dude has proven multiple times that he has a short fuse and is not mature enough to take seriously, let alone hold this post. He doesn’t deserve our time on these here web forums, though I suspect Ashvegas will start a Wainscott Watch tag to replace the dearth of grocery news.

Well, there was no domestic violence involved. Check the facts.

When Wainscott signed up for LinkedIn, the app sent an automatic email to his contacts.

Whatever other issues people may have with him, attacking him on false claims of “domestic violence” and “violating court orders” doesn’t address them.

Then why was this e-mail considered a violation of a restraining order and why was their a restraining order imposed in the first place?

You know this is Wainscott himself posting as the two “s” yepperss. Domestic abuser, narcissist.

The restraining order is for domestic abuse. Yes the guy arrested in Raleigh is the sane guy. He continued to harass family after the domestic violence restraining order.

He is a domestic abuser who continues to terrorize his family despite restraining orders. And he runs on a domestic abuse platform? Seems like a classic narcissist abuser move.

It is all public record. Multiple instances.

Lol. He attacks Pisgah Legal on his FB, who.have been serving the community with affordable to free legal council for such a long time.

Attacks his family, attacks protective businesses, wants more marijuana. Vote for Wainscott!
