The Christians on Pack Square spent most of Saturday sitting quietly near the Vance Monument with their ginormous signs as the great unwashed passed by.

But as the day wore on, and the alcohol sunk in, the great unwashed began challenging the Christians. This, of course, is exactly what the Christians want. They want people to get in their face, to argue, to show their asses. They egg people on, basically saying that if you’re a Democrat, you’re going to hell.

The arguing almost always ends in a stalemate, though it came close to blows a couple of times.

"Christian" does not equal "Republican", Ash. "Christian" also does not equal small-minded, bigoted asshole. Though, this is oftentimes the case. Especially in the good ‘ole racist south. Sucks. Our Puritanical roots have really f’ed us up. Check out my non-trad Christian pals’ blogs… Emerge N See & Stuff (one is a Brit, the other is an ex-pat). These guys are a bit more theologically & culturally sound – in my humble opinion. Shan goes off on some prophetic bits that may seem a bit strange to you… move on past that & read the rest. These folks are tres cool – I really resonate with them & how they see Jesus (in very non-American way). The TRY to flesh out the ‘Christian’ life (almost a dirrrrty word anymore) that the Bible tells us about. Not the boxed up, Bush-a-fied one that we’ve billed in the US of A. I ABHOR THIS. That’s enough of my soap box for one night.
