Screen shot 2013-02-20 at 11.08.42 AMFrom The Day of Resistance: WNC Second Amendment Rally page on FB. The event is set for noon on Saturday:

Our goal is to peacefully stand with fellow patriots across the nation in defense of our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. The rights of American citizens shall not be infringed.

The Constitution is being trampled. Our “natural rights” are gradually being stripped each day. How much longer are we to sit and watch? It’s time to stand together as citizens of this country. Join us in support our Second Amendment (and the Constitution). The Second Amendment is one of the most important of the rights we have to protect what our founding fathers set up to secure our freedom from tyranny.

Please remember that this is a peaceful protest. Please consider your message as you create signs. Also please remember to follow all local, state, and federal laws concerning firearms.

My right not to be shot trumps your right to own a gun. Put that on a sign.

Peter: I am a gun owner myself, and though I don’t hunt often anymore, I see hunting as an important part rural culture and an important source of food for many. As a child, I probably ate venison and other game as much as beef or pork. (My family’s pigs and cows were an important source of income, it wouldn’t have been prudent to eat them.) As an adult living in a more urban setting, I am glad that random strangers and potential criminals have no idea which residents on my street are armed and which ones aren’t. I think its an important deterrent to crime. I believe in the second amendment.

What I think is ridiculous is the HOLY SH*T freak-out that people are currently having. I’m mean Wayne LaPierre himself was in favor of background checks at gun shows, now he equates it to confiscation. The straight-up gun NUTS are crawling out of the woodwork. Meanwhile, DB is right, gun and ammo sales are through the roof and the manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank.

Actually it is perfectly legal to conceal carry and open carry at Pack Square Park. I don’t know why you people want to make fun of them. They are rallying for the 2nd amendment. Do you not believe in the bill of rights?

Yes Pete but the Second Amendment was not written with assault rifles in mind, nor did mentally defective individuals shoot up a bunch of innocent folks in schools or theaters…..

I would argue that it was written with “assault rifles” in mind. The rifles that had just beaten the British were the assault weapons of the day, and is precisely why the founders added the second amendment. What part of shall not be infringed do you folks not understand?

Not so fast. The Occupiers succeeded in one thing….establishing “free speech” zones within Pack Square Park. The area around the monument isn’t subject to park rules.

This just in… Gun nuts just figured out that it’s illegal to carry firearms, openly, or concealed at a protests in general, or on city property, i.e. Pack Square. Signs only. Better run ’em through spell check.

Every time liberals start talking about “reasonable” gun control, (we all know what they really mean) legal gun sales go through the roof. Over 65M guns have been legally purchased since Obama has been elected. Do you want to slow down the proliferation of guns in America? Then tell Obama, Feinstein, The Media, etc., to STFU!

I’ll be there holding a picture of my mom and handing out copies of this letter I recently sent to Rep. McHenry. Alas he offered no help, compassion or support.

    Dear Congressman McHenry,

I’m writing you as a father of two young children and the son of a beautiful, giving, lovely mother- who was cut down in her prime by an act of senseless gun violence when I was in college and my sister was in junior high school. She was shot in cold blood and literally left to die alone in the gutter in Charlotte in 1989.

Since that time, I’ve started a family of my own. My kids will never know their grandmother, JoAnne Flemming. And one day I’ll have to tell them how their grandmother died. I can’t imagine anything worse to tell a child, but I’ll have to do it. My kids were horrified by the Sandy Hook shootings, can’t comprehend how such a horrible thing can happen.

There are many factors that contribute to violence, no doubt. But you can’t deny that if there were fewer guns on the streets, fewer people would be killed by guns. Its a truth.

To that end I’m asking you support President Obama’s entirely reasonable gun control agenda. Regular citizens do not need assault rifles. They don’t need armor piercing rounds or 30 round clips.

We do need stronger background checks on gun buyers. We do need more funding for mental health services to help prevent future bloodshed. We need to close the gun show loophole.

And we need YOUR leadership to help break the intractable grip that the NRA has on the Republican party. You know that most Americans support the measures I mentioned. Do you really think it is fair to put more people in harms way just to appease a well connected but minority special interest?

I’m asking you to put aside party politics and support positive action to lessen the horrific toll gun violence plays in America today.

    Sincerely,

    Jody F

I think I’m gonna give downtown a wide berth today. As has been demonstrated over and over again, when there are a lot of guns in one place, one is likely to go off.

So, if you go downtown and parade about with your breasts out (Breasts= 100% natural, life giving, necessary to the survival of the species) you will be labeled obscene and perhaps charged with a felony.

Go downtown and parade around with your AK-47 (Gun= man-made, instrument of death and destruction, no other use) you are a patriot, standing up for your rights.

If there is a God, it should just smite us all now. We are a mess, as in totally f’ed up.

The protest is in Pack Square, which is a city park, and I’m fairly certain that guns are completely banned within park boundaries. That’s probably why the message also includes the warning about following all federal, state and local gun laws.

According to the CT today: “the Gun owners, according to city ordinance, can’t openly carry in Pack Square Park, other city parks or designated city-owned facilities. Vance Monument is likely exempt from these rules because its considered a “free speech zone.”

not to mention the APD and BCSD most always video the protests that occur around that intersection (regardless of the nature of the gathering) … my guess is the FBI will also be on hand with cameras.
