Now that election season is off and running, let’s try to get to know our candidates. Here is Dwight Butner, owner of Vincenzo’s restaurant in downtown Asheville. Here’s a snippet from a questionnaire he filled out for the chamber of commerce.

We’re going to try and bring you as much info as we can from various sources – it’s interesting to see how candidates’ answers might change, depending on the audience. And as usual, the answers can be so blah that they tell you nothing.

But if we can round up enough info from various sources, we hope to bring you a more rounded picture of the candidates. I think we at Ashvegas should come up with our own list of questions, and we need your help. What do you want to know about our city council candidates?

If you wish to do so, please elaborate on your top priorities.

I would like to say that all of the issues listed above are important and, within the overall context of maintaining the well being of this city, they all have their place. Being a businessman, support for the local economy is very high on my list of priorities. I am not for business for businesses sake, however. I believe that without a strong vibrant business climate that produces jobs and opportunities for all our citizens that we doom ourselves to stagnation and poverty. Without tax revenues and a growing tax base we will not have the money to address the other pressing social issues which all urban areas face. Furthermore, I do not see any conflict whatsoever between environmental issues and local business. Maintaining the quality of life for the residents in this area is good business.

Here’s the link to the full questionnaire – scroll down to get to it.
