village_hotel_biltmore_1_feb_2015_ashevilleThe first in a new wave of Asheville hotels will open in two weeks when the ribbon is cut on the Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate. Village Hotel will have 209 rooms and is located near Antler Village and The Winery on the Biltmore Estate property.

New hotel construction in the city’s central business district gets most of the attention these days. (Building is underway on four downtown hotels at key intersections.) Construction on several new hotels outside of downtown Asheville is also planned.

By my accounting, the Village Hotel is the first of all of these to open. Here’s the original press release on the Village Hotel:

The Biltmore Company, which operates the National Historic Landmark Biltmore House, has begun construction planning for Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate, the company’s second lodging property on the estate.

This will be the estate’s second overnight accommodations to open on estate property. The four-star Inn on Biltmore Estate, with 201 rooms and nine suites, opened in 2001.

The site preparation and permit phase has begun, with construction scheduled to begin by mid-October.

Plans call for 209 guestrooms, and opening is planned for November 2015. Reservations for a stay at the new property will be available starting spring 2015. The hotel will create around 230 jobs.

Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate will be a four-story, 130,000 square-foot hotel adjacent to the Winery in Antler Hill Village. Its close proximity to those areas will offer guests a comfortable and convenient home base for exploring the estate’s grounds, shopping, dining and live music on the village green.

Dining options will include a casual restaurant and bar offering a small plate tasting menu, Biltmore wines, craft beers and signature cocktails. The lobby will feature an “open kitchen” concept, with freshly prepared on-the-go food and drink options. In addition, guests can enjoy other dining options nearby in the village – Bistro, Cedric’s Tavern and the Creamery.

The hotel’s amenities will include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center and complimentary shuttle service around the estate.
