The Sense of Humor joke shop in downtown Asheville is going out of business. There are signs up all over the windows.

This is not funny. And it’s too bad. The shop moved about a year ago from a slightly out-of-the-way spot on Walnut Street to a high-visibility spot on Battery Park Avenue in the Miles Building.

Well, f*ck. That sucks. I know and love the owners dearly.

Yeah Forrest. Lord forbid we allow any business to go in there and pay property taxes……especially while facing a $5 million budget shortfall prediction for FY 2011. Maybe we should leave it empty, and let tragically hip people "chill" there to tweet other tragically hip people how they’re being hip. Then we can blame the lack of bike lanes, sidewalks, Domestic Partner Benefits, affordable housing, green spaces, and riverfront property purchases on the ubiquitous "them" and hope for the gum-drop fairy to make it happen.

    Get real, dude.

Sorry to hear that. I found all kinds of treasures there. I don’t know where I will go now for my ITLAPD needs.

Agreed and I have a bad feeling that the space has chain bait written all over it.

This is truly sad. It was one of the best shops downtown.
