NC native and musical pioneer Doc Watson passed away on May 29. In his honor and as a benefit for folk music in Asheville, Fairview resident David Holt presents A Tribute to Doc Watson with David Holt. The event is a benefit for Shindig on the Green.

Holt, Watson’s regular collaborator for several years, has won four Grammy Awards and performed and recorded with Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Roy Acuff and Chet Atkins.

From the Diana Wortham Theatre on Facebook:

Doc Watson left an amazing legacy of music and stories. Hailed as one the country’s greatest folk musicians, Doc has left an indelible mark on American music and culture. David Holt traveled and performed with Doc for the last 14 years. Doc became his mentor and “musical father.” In the tribute, Holt traces Watson’s life through stories, songs and historic photographs.
