There have been a flurry of celebrity sightings around Asheville the past few days.

First, LA-based singer/songwriter Michelle Branch tweeted that she was hanging out in Asheville. Here’s a sample:

On the bus headed for Memphis. Had a great day in Asheville. Went to Early Girl Eatery and had peach pie for breakfast, then yoga.

Next, I heard from @chefbillyd over at The Market Place that Woody Harrelson was spotted on Wall Street in downtown Asheville. Harrelson is one of the slew of stars with roles in The Hunger Games film that’s being shot in and around Asheville, and North Carolina, this summer.

And finally, Asheville Citizen-Times sports columnist Keith Jarrett reported about some cool happenings out at the Biltmore Estate. Bruce Hornsby played a concert there over the weekend, but took some time out for a couple of special shout-outs. Hornsby called up UNCA men’s basketball coach Eddie Biedenbach to the stage to honor he and his team for last year’s great run, which saw them win their conference tournament and play in the NCAA tournament. Hornsby’s son, a stellar basketball recruit, is coming to play for UNCA starting this year.

Hornsby then called up NBA coach Rick Carlisle, who was in attendance. Carlisle’s Dallas Mavericks won the NBA championship earlier this year, and can also play a mean keyboard. Carlisle jammed with Hornsby on a tune.

Nice.

The tribute also included assistant coach (UNCA alum) Brett Carey, who helped recruit Keith Hornsby to UNCA.

Rick Carlisle played piano on 3 songs, Defenders of the Flag, Little Maggie and Birdland…also not the first time he's sat in with Bruce. He's done this for at least one other Biltmore show (2006).
