More of what’s going around:

-Wicked Weed has donated $50,000 to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. It’s the latest in a string of $50,000 donations that Wicked Weed has made to local organizations: the YMCA of WNC and Pisgah Legal Services have also been beneficiaries of the awards.

-There’s a new tattoo shop on the South Slope. It’s called Integrity Alliance, and it’s located at 120 Coxe Ave., suite 1C.

-Feel the beat at the Asheville Percussion Festival, reports Asheville Grit.

-Learn all about tango at Sabores del Tango on Aug. 25-27 in Pritchard Park.

-Barnes & Noble at the Asheville Mall will host a launch party from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 2 for the release of local author Robert Beatty’s book Serafina and the Splintered Heart. The book is the third in a series published by Disney Hyperion. The event includes photo opportunities with the costumed characters, ballroom dance and waltz lessons with dancers from the book’s video trailer, live presentations with animals from the books world, such as wolves and birds of prey, readings and a book signing and author event. A similar event will be held from 2-6 p.m. on July 8 at Barnes & Noble in Biltmore Park.

-UNC Asheville’s free Concerts on the Quad returns at 8:30 p.m. on Monday with Westsound, a quartet led by two brothers, Weaverville natives Randy and Oscar Weston on keyboards, guitar, and vocals, and featuring vocalist Regina Duke and drummer Michael Leyshon. The band has been bringing lively soul and funk to parties and festivals around Western North Carolina for many years, according to a press release, covering songs by Sam Cooke; the Four Tops; the Temptations; Stevie Wonder; Earth, Wind & Fire; Kool and the Gang; Michael Jackson; Rick James; Prince; James Brown and more.

-The Pigeon River Fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina recently awarded $182,440 to environmental groups working to improve surface water quality, enhance fish and wildlife habitats, expand public use and access to waterways and increase water quality awareness in Buncombe, Haywood and Madison counties, according to a press release. The most recent grant recipients are: Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, French Broad River Academy, Haywood County Schools, Haywood Waterways Association, the Towns of Black Mountain and Canton, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Maggie Valley Sanitary District and The Conservation Fund.
