-Asheville city street repaving coming up: Portions of a total of 12 city streets will be repaved in coming months, according to a press release. Patton Avenue from College to Biltmore will be resurfaced, as well as Lexington Avenue from College to Patton. That work will be done at night, but there will be lane closures. Other streets slated for repaving include most of Shiloh Road, off Hendersonville Road just south of Biltmore Village, and two streets in West Asheville, Covington and Wellington streets, according to the release. In the north section of town, Spears Avenue off Merrimon Avenue is on the list, as is Stone Alley. On the south side, Ballantree Drive and South Oak Forest Drive will be resurfaced. -Asheville youth seeking crowdfunding for Nepal trip: Adam Wagner of Asheville and a friend are asking the public for $5,000 to help them pay for expenses related to a 5-week volunteer trip in Nepal. The two will be working with Medic Mobile. Read more at their indiegogo page.

-New store openings at Asheville Outlets: West Elm, Bath & Body Works and Talbots are all opening soon at the new Asheville Outlets on Brevard Road. West Elm Outlet will open July 2, while the other two will open June 29.

-Money yanked from UNC School of Law, handed to MAHEC: WRAL reports that N.C. Sen Tom Apodoca can be a real jerk.

-The King Sunny Ade show at New Mountain Asheville has been canceled. He can’t get a visa, according to a New Mountain spokesman.

-Susan Jaffe to speak: Susan Jaffe, the former principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre and current dean of dance and the UNC School of the Arts, will be part of a moderated discussion at 7 p.m. on July 10 in the Forum room of Diana Wortham Theatre. Motion Dance Theatre is hosting the event.

-Underhill Rose album release party: Underhill Rose will celebrate the release of their latest album with a June 27 show at Grey Eagle. The Tyler Nail Trio will open. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the show.

-Book trailer premiere: A book by first-time Asheville author Robert Beatty has a massive publicity machine behind it, thanks in no small part to the book’s connection with the famous Biltmore Estate and the fact that the book is being published by Disney-Hyperion, Disney’s book-publishing arm. A trailer for the new book, Serafina and the Black Cloak, will be show at 7 p.m. on June 25 at Carolina Cinemas in Asheville. The book “tells the story of an intriguing and brave girl who lives secretly in the basement of the Biltmore mansion, and the mystery that only she can solve,” according to a press release. It will be released nationwide on July 14. The book trailer was made by Paul Bonesteel and Bonesteel Films here in Asheville. The event is free, but attendees are asked to consider making a donation to MANNA Food Bank.
