-There’s a plan to build a new two-story building at 15 Carolina Lane, where an existing building under renovation collapsed in January 2013. Nobody was injured in that incident.  The building that fell sat atop the downtown lane and above Bouchon restaurant’s private dining room, a room that is in a separate building at the back of the popular French restaurant. The building was vacant and was going to be part of a major renovation project on the Lexington Avenue Courtyard. That project never came to fruition. Plans for the new commercial building would create four live/work units.

-The city’s Technical Review Committee will look at the following proposed projects on Monday:

-A “substantial renovation” of the three-story, 71,800-square-foot existing building at 49 N. Lexington Avenue. That building is on the corner of Lexington Avenue and Walnut Street.

-An application for the review of a six-lot major subdivision on 1.22 acres known as 119 Millbrook Road, which is off Westwood Place in West Asheville.

-Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church’s proposal to build a 9,200-square-foot education and administrative center next to the 136-year-old church at 47 Eagle St. The area is already the scene of two big construction projects (a boutique hotel complex and a mixed-used housing project) and a planned third project (an apartment complex).
-In other development news, there’s a plan to build a 103-room hotel on 1.91 acres of land at 49 Tunnel Road near the old Innsbruck Mall. The project is called the Innsbruck Hotel. The hotel flag is Candlewood Suites. The owner of the property is Milestone 1, LLC.

-The Market Place Restaurant has been recognized for its role in promoting good food and sustainable food systems with six links on the first annual Good Food 100 Restaurants List from the Good Food Media Network, according to a press release. The list is based on self-reported annual food purchasing data, independently verified by NSF Responsible Sourcing, according to the release. Restaurants are rated with two to six links—symbolizing links in the food chain—based on the percent of total food costs spent to support state, regional and national “good food” producers and purveyors. A corresponding economic assessment conducted by the Business Research Division, Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder measuring the dollar impact locally, regionally and nationally by these restaurants will be available this summer.
