purina_commercials_2014Some of what’s going around:

West Asheville rape reported: The city of Asheville sent out this press release late Tuesday afternoon. Residents initially reported this on a FB community watch page as a rape at gunpoint:

The Asheville Police Department is investigating a report of a Breaking & Entering / Sexual Assault which was reported 5:38 AM on Monday – 05/26/14 at a West Asheville residence.

The victim described the suspect as a very dark-skinned black male, with short dreads, facial hair only on his chin, and wearing overalls. It is believed that the suspect fled on either a moped or motorcycle.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110 or Asheville Buncombe Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050.

Foundry closing: The Foundry shop, which opened about four years ago on Charlotte Street, has announced it is closing. Here’s the sad news from founders Shelly and Natalie:

It is our regret to inform everyone that Foundry will be closing at the end of June 2014. For nearly 4 years, we have made our best efforts to keep the dream alive. The reality is, although we still believe in Foundry, we just can’t manage to get the business to sustain itself and have simply run out of means to help it along.

If there are any items you’ve been considering please, please, please now is the time to purchase. Remember, it’s never too early to begin holiday shopping! Any purchases made over the next weeks will serve to reduce our amassed financial burden and aid in a smooth closure. In addition to our beautiful gift items, we will also be selling our furniture and fixtures, so please feel free to inquire about anything that you may find useful.

We have met so many fantastic people on our journey; to have to exit now is truly heartbreaking. We hope that Foundry has inspired those who walked through its doors to reconsider the things we throw away. More, we hope that Foundry’s audience has been made aware of the amazing community of artists and crafters who are transforming troves of discarded material into something beautifully relevant. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who have supported our dream to ‘make the world a little less trashy’.

Moe’s in Weaverville: Word on the street is that Moe’s has found a new location in Weaverville after initially looking at the former Jack of Hearts location. New rumored location: an old shop across from the library/Blue Mountain Pizza on Main Street.

New Merrimon development: Speaking of Moe’s, there’s a new, small shopping center going in next to the Moe’s on Merrimon. One tenant will be Massage Envy, according to Twitter reports.

Purina commercials: Earlier this year, Purina came to Asheville to launch a marketing effort and film some commercials. Those commercials are now online, and they’re fun to watch. Purina commercials here, here, here and here and here.

Beer City Beards: The Beer City Beard & Mustache Club has a meeting coming up at 3 p.m. Saturday at Westville Pub.

Marshall Beach: Yeah, Marshall, as in Madison County. Marshall Beach is apparently a thing:

May 31st, 10am cleanup followed by sun and fun.
Bring picnic blanket and lunch. We will fire up the grills at 1:00. Bring something to share. Footwear is highly recommended.
There are now

Buchi Bar: The new Buchi Bar at Rosetta’s on North Lexington Avenue in downtown Asheville is close to opening. Here’s a sneak peek.

Glad to hear about Moe’s still looking at Weaverville. Though it’s a disappointment that the Jack of Hearts space will be shuttered all summer.

I think the Marshall Beach thing is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but I just can’t tell. The picture on their facebook is hilarious though.
