Here’s more of what’s going around, including plans by well-known Asheville chef and restaurateur Vijay Shastri to open a new downtown eatery. Here we go:

-Chef and restaurant owner Vijay Shastri, who has a long culinary history in Asheville, says he’ll open a new restaurant in downtown. The Continental Lounge will feature comfort food and should open this summer. It will be located on Biltmore Ave in the former Local Provisions spot. Shastri formerly operated the beloved Flying Frog Cafe in downtown for a decade, and later Mr. Frog’s on South Market Street across from the YMI Building.

-Asheville City Schools plans to close on May 16 as a large number of teachers plan to take the day to head to Raleigh to

-The Asheville-based Blue Ridge Hemp Co., which makes a variety of cannabidiol products, plans to unveil a CBD “pre-roll” soon. It looks like a fat joint, but will not have the psychoactive properties of marijuana.

GRO Fest is this weekend at Looking Glass Creamery.

-Did you know there’s a guy who will take you river snorkeling in the mountains of Western North Carolina? Check out the WNC magazine feature on Oxbow River Snorkeling.

-The Battle of the Broad paddle board races on the French Broad River in #Asheville is happening this weekend.

-Cornhole, anyone? The American Cornhole League returns to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino from July 11-15 for three main events and $50,000 in guaranteed prizes. Let me repeat that: Fifty. Thousand. Dollars. In prizes. For your cornhole greatness.

-Reminder: Sunday is Mother’s Day.

Please tell me this isn’t the same Vijay who owned flying frog; Cuz in Jan 2017; He was quoted as saying
“The real issue with Asheville is the sheer amount of places,“There are way too many restaurants for the amount of people there are. The amount of tables that are available year-round does not match the amount of feet that are available year-round.”
