Here’s more of what’s going around, including:

-Food & Wine recently named Curate restaurant one of The 40 Most Important Restaurants of the Past 40 Years. The list includes established greats, such as Momofuku, Commander’s Palace, The French Laundry and more. It calls Chef Katie Button’s restaurant “a brilliant Spanish tapas haunt” that, along with its sister restaurant Nightbell, helped put Asheville squarely on the foodie map. Button said this about the honor in a Facebook post:

It is surreal for us to be included in this list surrounded by those we admire so much. Our teams work so hard and have so much passion, it feels great to see them recognized. Felix Meana and I are so grateful to the people who stand with us everyday at both Cúrate and The Nightbell understanding and supporting our vision, and working tirelessly and with so much pride to make it happen. We still have a continued responsibility to make improvements in ourselves and in the restaurant industry as a whole. It takes all of us together to have the conversations that change the future. Thank you Food & Wine for this incredible honor!

-Chef William Dissen of The Market Place Restaurant will participate in the World Food Summit at Copenhagen City Hall in Denmark on Aug. 29-31. Dissen will join a host of other leaders to talk about food sustainability. Dissen’s panel session on Thursday will focus on best practices and recommendations on how chefs can play an active role in improving our food system via partnerships. Dissen will share his initiatives at his restaurants (The Market Place Restaurant in Asheville, Haymaker Restaurant in Charlotte, and Billy D’s Fried Chicken in Asheboro) using “Good Food” and being an active part of the restaurant community, according to a press release.

-Chef Vijay Shastri, who is preparing to open the new The Continental Lounge on Biltmore Avenue in downtown, is interviewing potential employees this week.

-Simple Cafe & Juice Bar is now open on Haywood Road in West Asheville.

-Inmates at prisons in Black Mountain and Asheville are participating in a national prison strike starting today. The inmates plan to stop reporting to their assigned jobs, will stop commissary spending, hold peaceful sit-in protests and refuse to eat during the strike. Vox has an explainer here.

-The Smokey Mountain Adventure Center on Amboy Road is planning to install a climbing boulder at the front entrance of its building.

-Major renovations are coming to the Tyler Building at corner of Walnut and North Lexington Avenue.
