Ashvegas: The City You Love. The News You Want.Just some of the awesome that’s going around:

Ace is the place: Ace Hardware is planning to move into a former Ingles grocery store at the corner of Patton Avenue and Haywood Road. There’s a “coming soon” sign up in the window.

Anna Toth denim, Cobra Rock boots at pop-up shop in West Asheville: Check out this awesome note from Karie of SHELTER COLLECTIVE in West Asheville:

I don’t know if Anna Toth from Bow + Arrow Apparel has gotten in touch with you yet, but I just wanted to let you know about SHELTER COLLECTIVE’s first pop-up shop featuring Anna’s work and the lovely work of Logan and Colt from Cobra Rock boots out of Marfa, TX. Here’s the link to the event.
That’s some hot fashion right there, folks. Toth was recently a co-winner of Charleston Fashion Week’s emerging designer competition. Pop-up is June 3-4, 7 Brevard Road at SHELTER COLLECTIVE. Check it.

New Mountain Asheville: New Mountain Asheville is the new name for a familiar music venue on French Broad Avenue that has gone through so many iterations that it’s hard to keep up. Formerly known as La Cama and Metrosphere and Club ReMix and Club Hairspray, the joint is now New Mountain Asheville. It’s been renovated, and the new management has big plans. I’m collecting deets. Check out New Mountain on FB.

Comedy burlesque show: Asheville’s Kathleen Hahn has another No She Didn’t comedy burlesque show coming June 6 and 7. This is a really fun show, by one of Asheville’s sexiest dancer teachers. Check it. Stay tuned to Ashvegas for a ticket give-away.

Liquor bill: Buncombe N.C. Reps. Tim Moffitt, Susan Fisher and Nathan Ramsey, as well as Henderson County Rep. Chuck McGrady, have filed a bill in the N.C. General Assembly to allow spiritous liquor tastings at ABC stores in the city of Asheville.

Pack Square Park stage covering: The long-awaited covering for the main stage at Pack Square Park was being put in place this afternoon. The project of the Asheville Downtown Association will dramatically expand the programming offerings at the park. Expect, like, movies and stuff.

Red June’s new release: Last week, I attended the CD release party for Red June’s new record. This trio makes some smooth, lovely music. Their newest album, Ancient Dreams, is their third. It’s on Organic Records, which is a whole ‘nother story. (More on that soon.) Check it.

Speaking of music, put this on your calendar: Seun Kuti, the reigning prince of Afrobeat, is performing at Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain on June 14 – with his legendary father’s band, Egypt 80. Fela Kuti is widely recognized as the afrobeat pioneer. The group is touring in support of their new record, A Long Way to the Beginning.

Bellyak gives back: Check this out from Asheville company Bellyak:

From May 15-June 15, for every Bellyak boat purchased through a retailer or www.bellyak.com, a portion of the proceeds will be used to provide bellyaks for Team River Runner, a non-profit organization serving Veterans through adaptive sports. To learn more and read the full press release, visit: http://pitch.pe/1n0OlLbBellyak’s website is www.bellyak.com

ICYMI: The owners of Barley’s pizza joint in downtown Asheville have leased a junk yard along Riverside Drive. Word on the street  is that the place will be a new music venue. Perhaps a new home for Brewgrass? More here about other new beer-drinking venues coming online in ever-changing Asheville.

I talked with a friend in real estate about a month ago who said it’s still on; project should be getting going in the spring.

Ingles is dragging there feet with starting the building renovation, Madden’s Ace will be there as soon as Ingles gets the renovation done.

An Ace Hardware in West Asheville?! Are you serious? What are we gonna do with a hardware store? I was really hoping it would be a gastro-pub with $16 grassfed burgers and locally grown kale salads. Or at least a new micro-brewery. I’m so tired of the same old beers in this town. That was a perfect space for a new tasting room for Wicked Weed. I hate having to drive all the way downtown to taste their sour beers.

Ace Hardware, I am wafting a fart in your general direction.
