brew_pump_julyfourth_2014Because there’s more tasty food news to dish:

-Chef seeks public’s help to fund Brevard’s first food truck: Chef Anne Somich, owner of Wild Indigo Catering, is asking the public for $50,000 to launch a food truck, which would be a first for Brevard. Here’s a tidbit from her Kickstarter campaign:

A food truck will enable Wild Indigo Catering to expand these horizons. We’ll be able to offer more tasty breakfast options at the Transylvania County Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, become more efficient and creative at festivals like Mountain Song and bring our food to remote venues for events outside the city. A food truck will also allow us to be at more places like Oskar Blues Brewery, The Hub & Pisgah Tavern and many more local venues where food is not currently available, including food deserts. Living in a county where a third of its residents are food insecure, this food truck would have the potential to aid in the ongoing effort to address hunger and poor nutrition in rural mountain communities here in Transylvania County. We could offer healthy cooking demonstrations and partner with local organizations that promote wellness and/or food security initiatives through the open doors of our mobile kitchen. Further employment opportunities could become available as well through this food truck initiative. The possibilities to impact this community, to us, seem endless provided we have the wheels to do so.

-The Junction’s Traditional Pig Pickin’: Here’s the essential info:

-Asheville Burger Wars: Kelly Denson has scheduled a sequel to her successful Asheville Wing War held earlier this year. Now it’s “The Battle of the Burger,” set for Aug. 10 at the Renaissance Hotel. Denson is taking nominations for which restaurants have the best burger in town and should be represented in the battle here.

This event is sponsored by Ingles and beer will be provided by Sierra Nevada and Pisgah Brewing. She’s anticipating more than 1,000 people will be at this event.

-Brew Pump celebrates July Fourth: Here’s the message from the folks at the Brew Pump, the bar-inside-a-gas-station along Haywood Road in West Asheville:

Come out this Saturday and celebrate Independence Day with us at The Brew Pump. We will be having a special pint night with Noble Cider Brewing, featuring Apple, Cherry, and Blueberry ciders. Doc Brown’s BBQ will be here along with Sunshine Sammies Ice Cream Sandwiches. Hope to see you for some good times and good beer.

  1. Potential to aid in the effort to address hunger is my favorite s t r e t c h.

    • If you help us get our business started, we *might* be able to do something charitable on the side some time in the future. If anyone asked us to. Honest!

Is there really enough business in Transylvania County to keep a truck going all week as a viable business on its own, or is this basically just a super-fancy catering truck for an existing restaurant?

I don’t mind people trying to crowd source, but the reward needs to be more inline with the amount of money you donate. For $25 you get one food item off the truck and a beverage. Unless that one item is a whole chicken and some sides, then it’s a ridiculous price. How about a sand which, side, and drink for $10. Basically supporting a business with pre-sales before they’ve open or proved themselves.

    • Why don’t you lean to speed sandwich?

Ahhhh, someone tried to make a funny. Guess I hit a nerve. How about adding something to the discussion, or maybe go back to whacking off in your parent’s basement where you reside. Bye now.

      • “lean to speed”?

        Like in motorcycle racing?

Sometimes I wonder about this site.

  3. These begging campaigns are becoming numerous and humorous.

  4. Should I just save us all some time and copy/paste the comments section from one of the other dozen “Business Seeks Funds Through Kickstarter” ?
