Rainey Qualley, the 24-year-old eldest daughter of actress and former Asheville resident Andie MacDowell (aka Rose Qualley), stopped in Asheville this week to promote her country music single Turn Me On Like The Radio.rainey_qualley_tweet_2015

Qualley stopped at 99.9 Kiss Country’s radio station as part of a radio station tour. She’s apparently pursuing a career as a country music singer. Qualley, who called the station her hometown radio station in a tweet, spent some formative years growing up here in Asheville with her mother.

Here’s more on Rainey Qualley, from a story last year at al.com:

(Why country?) I’ve always loved to sing and write songs. I play guitar, I’m not great, but you know. After Montana, we moved to North Carolina so I grew up in the south and always loved Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. Not all the music I write is country. A lot of it has a bluesy influence, and some of its more folky and pop. The major reason for me to move to Nashville was meeting this group of guys that I’ve been recording and writing with, and we’ve really connected.” …

(About the single) That’s as country as I’ve gone. We’re still kind of figuring out the whole deal with labels and a potential radio tour. I’m not 100 percent sure it’s going to be the first single anymore. We actually just shot the first music video for the song which I’m super psyched about. My friend Erica Dasher created the concept and directed it. It was her first music video and my first music video and I’m really happy with the way it turned out.”

And here’s music video for Qualley’s new tune.

How Rose raises her children is certainly her business (and her former husband’s), but when she appears to push them into the public eye, it invites questions from the public. She presumably wanted them to have a private life, away from public attention, as they grew up in Asheville. But soon after they finished high school, she abandoned Asheville (had she ever fully embrace it?), steered Rainey into becoming “Miss Golden Globe and then had her cast in movies with her. (What teenage girl would want a title that could be misconstrued as “Miss Golden Globes?”) What about sending them to college to try to discover what their talents are? Or send them to a really good acting school, Yale or Julliard? Contrast that with Jennifer Ehle, another child of celebrity parents raised in North Carlina, whose actress mother (and writer father) sent her to the North Carolina School of the Arts and the Central School of Drama in London.

“How Rose raises her children is certainly her business….”

And then you continued to write another paragraph.

Looks like the “acting career” didn’t take off…
