A group of Asheville students is organizing a gun control rally set for March 24. Students plan to march from Haywood Road to Pack Square Park for a rally that will coincide with similar student-led gatherings across the country in response to the Parkland, Fla., school shooting on Feb. 14 in which 17 people were shot to death.

Here are the details for the March For Our Lives – Asheville event from a press release. Also, here’s the gofundme page for the event here.

Today, students from Asheville have announced plans for March For Our Lives – Asheville, a student led march to take place in downtown Asheville on Saturday, March 24. The event will begin at 68 Haywood Road with student planners leading attendees on a march at 11 a.m. to Pack Square Park for an organized rally.

“After witnessing such a tragedy from a high school similar to my own,” says co-organizer Ayrelle Jacobsen, a senior at AC Reynolds. “I realized that gun violence is an immediate and pressing issue. The leadership and activism from the Parkland students inspired me, as well as many other students, to stand up and speak up. We hope to communicate our frustration with America’s current state of gun violence and our leaders’ failures to act to keep students safe. We represent a movement to secure our unalienable rights; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To create a safer future for our generation and posterity, we must unite. Join us, be heard, and make a difference.”

On Feb. 14, a shooting in Parkland, Fla., at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School created a ripple effect that could be felt across the country. In response to the horrific event that claimed 17 lives, students will be gathering in cities nationwide on March 24 for the March For Our Lives movement to make their voices heard. Students in Asheville are planning a sister march to support fellow students affected by gun violence, aiming to create positive change one step at a time.

  1. Is this a march against “gun violence”, or a march against “guns”? I ask because every so called protest against “gun violence” I’ve seen to date has actually been a protest against “guns” themselves and/or against the unalienable and individual Natural Right to Self Defense.

Since the recent gathering of collectivists in February, the AVL mayor & council have publicaly stated their true intentions are to disarm local law abiding citizens, calling on US Congress to ban ALL semi-automatic firearms, which of course includes even revolvers. In doing so, they violate their oath of office which is a legal ground for removal.

The obvious fact that these collectivists ignore is that all of their gun regulations failed to prevent the horrific tragedy in FL. Further, they ignore the fact that nearly every single mass shooting had occurred in “Gun Free Zones”.

The lesson failed to be learned from history is that gun regulations inspire mass shootings. How about let’s finally have an honest discussion about the real causes of the problem, eliminating “Gun Free Zones” which attract violent criminals, rather than calling for the STATE to violate more of our natural rights?

Regardless of such blatant ignorance at best and deceit at worst, we law abiding citizens — individualists who honor and respect the Natural Right of Self Defense — will NEVER voluntarily allow tyrants to disarm us, leaving us helpless to protect and defend ourselves, our loved ones, and our fellow community members.

  2. Barbara Gregg says:

Where is the march starting? There is nothing at 68 Haywood Rd. Facebook says it begins at Pack Square and goes to Martin Luther King Jr. park.

  3. And nothing will be accomplished by this event.

Don’t they mean 68 Haywood STREET??
