From Reddit:

My hats off to you Asheville. I heard you know good food, but… WOW.(self.asheville)

Visited Jack of the Wood this evening. Looked like a hole in the wall pub. Ordered a Green Man porter and the bartender recommended the rabbit ragout. Took his word. Was floored.

Stewed rabbit with a potato cake with kale chips. Its almost stupid how amazing it was. Never expected it to be 1/10 of what it was when I ordered. Visited Grand Cayman Island a few months ago and my meal here is in the same realm.

Kudos to you Asheville. T minus 3 weeks and counting until I’m permanent here and I can’t wait to indulge even more. Seriously. I had heard the food is supposed to be amazing, but now I’ve bought in. So… point me in another direction. Where should I go next?

40 comments and counting. A few:

Admiral. Hands down.

…which is second only to Cúrate. The Admiral is incredible, but Cúrate is transformative.

Also: food trucks. They all gather on Coxe Ave. near the Asheville Brewing Company. The Low Down is a personal favorite.

Salsa’s (anything), Nine Mile (specials, Raggy Road over zuchinni), Tupelo Honey (Eggs Betty), Sunny Point (Oatmeal Creme Brulee), 12 Bones (anything), Noi’s Thai Kitchen (Red Snapper curry), Gypsy Queen food truck (Cauliflower, Falafel wraps), White Duck taco truck (anything), The Admiral (specials), Avenue M (Beef Medallions with Spicy Ginger Tofu), Westville Pub (Mountain Quesadilla), Mamacita’s (Veggie Mama + chicken, specials)… Nearly any local non-chain restaurant has something unusual and amazing on the menu. Good luck!

Hit up Limone’s just off Biltmore. Great drinks (try the habanero margarita). Sunday brunch is amazing there too. Also, if you like pretzels (not to take anything away from LAB), the pretzels and hot beer cheese at Thirsty Monk makes me very happy. Dinnertime: Salsas. Does it get any better than Salsa’s? No. The answer is no.

Bandidos is a little known gem. Best quesadilla I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. It’s in West Asheville in the Burgermeister plaza.

Without a doubt, go check out Table! Fantastic food and the owners are awesome.

Plant! PlantPlantPlantPlantPlantPlantPlant! Plaaaaaant…!

First time I’ve done reddit. Good articles. This is not what you would call fine dinning but there’s a Steak n Shake in Weaverville (about ten miles north of Asheville). It’s the only one within about 100 miles. Great fast food burgers. Made from steak rather than ground beef. Weaverville is a small little town but is growing and has a nice assortment of great eateries. Blue Mountain Pizza is very popular with great Pizzas and other Italian dishes. Also has live entertainment most nights.
