Armbruster_69_Love_SongsAsheville Citizen-Times reporter and columnist Carol Motsinger blogs the story about Julie Armbruster’s new show:

Artist Julie Armbruster refers to her latest exhibit as an “imagination exercise.”

And this delightful description also applies to the inspiration behind the show, “Things We’re All Too Young to Know,” starting Friday at Chifferobe Home and Garden in Black Mountain.

The 69 small paintings are essentially illustrated love songs: Armbruster challenged herself to create one piece based on each of the songs in The Magnetic Fields’ three-album collection, “69 Love Songs.”

Frontman Stephin Merritt created the concept album as a personal challenge as well. His original goal was to write 100 love songs, but he settled on 69.

“Things We’re All Too Young To Know,” illustrated love songs by Julie Armbruster, will debut with a reception 5-7 p.m. Friday.
The show is at Chifferobe Home and Garden, 118-D Cherry St., in Black Mountain.
