According to Asheville Citizen-Times Answer Man John Boyle, Asheville is now the city without a Shoney’s. Our last Shoney’s, on Smokey Park Highway in Candler, has closed.

Gary Lowe, the Shoney’s franchisee, said the restaurant closed Oct. 28.

“We leased that building, and the landlord decided to sell the building,” Lowe said. “Naturally, the new owners didn’t want us in it.”

A Zaxby’s will go in the location. The Shoney’s had been there 37 years.

For now, Asheville is Big Boy-less, unless you count me.

Asheville’s Tunnel Road Kmart also recently announced it will close after over three decades in Asheville.

Kayla, far as I can tell, your best choice is to apply in person, or check Criagslist and other hiring sites.

Where do you go to fill out an application for the new Zaxby’s?

I really hope some sort of traffic study is performed before they build Zaxby’s to determine the best site layout for traffic control. The McDonald’s parking lot is a nightmare enough as it is. I can’t tell you how many times I have *almost* been hit by someone taking a left onto Acton Circle out of McDonalds (the back entrance has a somewhat blind curve on each side – almost daily someone almost gets T-boned coming out of the parking lot. It’s ridiculous) … or how backed up the intersection of Smoky Park and Acton can get because someone needs to turn left into McDonald’s.

Great news! Shoney’s is a terrible place to eat.
